Established 55+ Condominium Community on a Barrier Island in Southeastern Florida Boasts Breathtaking Views and Quiet Living

Tequesta is a little village on the southeastern Florida coast.  It straddles the Indian River (Intracoastal Waterway), with most of town on the mainland and a small section on the barrier island called Jupiter Island.   Lar Mar, an established 55+ condominium community, sits on the barrier island section.

Lar Mar, private and quiet, was built by DiVosta Homes in 1972 and was one of the first structures on Jupiter Island, which is now one of the wealthiest enclaves in Florida.   The condominiums are all located in a nine-story, white washed building that has water views to the east and to the west.   In total, La Mar only has 32 homes, and each one has approximately 1,500 square feet to 1,800 square feet, two bedrooms and two baths.  Each residence also has an open balcony and two covered parking spaces.  Large closets, split bedroom floor plans and a dome kitchen are standard. The building is secured and has elevator access.   Homes have sold in the $300,000s, but the median price is usually in the $600,000s.  Please check with a Realtor to verify these prices as they may change.

La Mar is not bursting with amenities, but residents say that the surrounding natural beauty and proximity to Florida's legendary beaches compensate for the lack of a fitness center or a grand ballroom.  And La Mar is not completely Spartan.  It has a beautiful lobby, an outdoor pool and a patio where residents gather to play cards, chat and have coffee.  Public beach access is just across the street, and the community has a handful of boat slips along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Tequesta has shops, eateries, merchants and an attractive senior center.   The Kane Clinic offers geriatric medical care in a state of the art facility.  The village does not have a hospital, but Jupiter Medical Center is just 3 miles away and is accredited by the Joint Commission.   It is also a Primary Stroke Center.

The climate is tropical in this part of Florida.   Summer temperatures are in the 80s and 90s, and winter temperatures are in the 50s, 60s and 70s. On average, the area receives 62 inches of rain per year.

La Mar does not have a dedicated website.   Visit http://tinyurl.com/jpuzmbw for listings, but keep in mind that with just 32 homes, there may not be any homes currently be for sale.
