Nearby Toccoa has a military museum. Its Amtrak station is served by the New York to New Orleans Crescent line. The town's thriving music scene includes a symphony orchestra and a rhythm and rails music festival. The expansive Lake Hartwell boasts secluded islands, beaches, and 963 miles of shoreline. Pontoons, ski boats, sail boats, and kayaks are all permitted on the lake's surface.
Stephens County Hospital is located in Toccoa, and it
is accredited by the Joint Commission.

and winter temperatures in the 30s, 40s and 50s.
