Beautiful, Elegant Lakeside Community of Biltmore Lake Has Single Family Homes, Town Homes and a Lush Mountain Setting

Artsy and a little funky, Asheville is nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in lush western North Carolina and is often hailed as a great place to live and retire. Its pretty setting and up-and-coming resort-like ambiance are just a couple of reasons why. Another reason is Biltmore Lake, an elegant, master planned community with 600 single family homes and town homes that are spread across 1,300 wooded acres. Although Biltmore Lake is not a 55+ community, it it has a sizeable number of baby boomers, pre-retirees and retirees.

This beautiful, gated community was started by Biltmore Farms in 1995. Over the years, other builders, including Peppledash Builders and Wright Family Custom Homes, have arrived, and construction continues to this day. Like the city in which it is located, Biltmore Lake has a mountain retreat ambiance. The numerous, eclectic neighborhoods wind around the shimmering 62-acre lake that is at the heart of the community, and they are connected by roads and trails that meander through forest land. The development has 1,000 home sites, so more homes will eventually be built. Still, it is doubtful that Biltmore Lake will ever feel congested or cookie cutter. Home sizes range from approximately 1,300 to 4,600 square feet. Most residences have from two to three bedrooms and two to three baths but some have up to five bedrooms and five baths. Many dwellings boast lake views.

The newest sections are called Greenwells Glory, where lots may an acre or larger, and Cedar Rock, where homes are low-key and low-maintenance. Architectural styles in these neighborhoods include Craftsman, lodge, arts and crafts and cottage. The other neighborhoods have re-sale single family homes, while the Rock Fish Cove section has re-sale town homes. Prices begin in the mid-$300,000s and top out in the million dollar range. Please check with a Realtor to verify these prices as they may change.

Idyllic and quiet, Biltmore Lake is the kind of place where one can sit and listen to the breeze in the trees during the day and hear the katydids chirping at night. The lake is the community's focal point and is often dotted with kayakers and canoers. The lodge sits on the lake's edge and has a fireplace and a large waterfront terrace. A full time activities director maintains a complete social events calendar so that there is always something to do. A lakeside nature trail and tennis courts round out the complement of amenities.

Asheville is full of art galleries, street buskers, antique stores and Art Deco buildings. The downtown area is nicknamed the "Paris of the South," and comfortable cafes and intimate bistros are in abundance, serving everything from BBQ to Indian cuisine. Tourists come year-round, primarily to see the French Renaissance-style chateau Biltmore Estate. Built by George Vanderbilt II in the late-19th century, it is the largest private residence in the world.

Mission Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission and is a Primary Stroke Center.

Asheville enjoys a temperate climate. Summer temperatures are in the 70s and 80s, and winter temperatures in the 30s and 40s. On average, the area receives 37 inches of rain and 14 inches of snow each year.
