Nestled in the Sea Islands region on South Carolina's southeastern coast, Dataw Island is a 870-acre community that was once a lush plantation. Only six miles from Beaufort, the gated Dataw Island should have 1100 residences at build out and still has lots available.

Low-maintenance villas and single family homes dominate the list of housing. Most clustered villas have two bedrooms, two baths, and a garage. Some have access to community docks and stocked fishing ponds. Higher-end homes may have private docks, up to four bedrooms, and private pools. All houses have golf course or water views. Lots can be had for as little as $25,000 and as much as $500,000. Home prices start in the high-$100,000s and top out in the millions. Please verify these prices with a Realtor as they may change.

Membership in Dataw Island's country club is open to non-residents and is mandatory for residents. Membership means rights to the 25,000 square foot clubhouse, its pub, grand ballroom, outdoor pool, and championship croquet greens. The country club also offers two 18-hole golf courses, tennis club, and community center with fitness facilities and visual arts space.

Dataw's deepwater marina has slips, dry storage, and access to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. Resident-run organizations range from quilting groups and RV groups to a League of Women Voters chapter and a Habitat for Humanity association.

Hilton Head, Charleston, and Savannah are easy day trips. Beaufort maintains a rich menu of dining and boutique shopping in its downtown.

Beaufort Memorial Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission. Services include wellness classes as well as level 3 emergency care.
