Elegant 55+ Community of Potomac Green Has a Variety of Home Styles and a Long List of Clubs, Activities and Events

In northern Virginia, thirty miles northwest of Washington, D.C., Ashburn is a bedroom community and the location of Potomac Green, a gated 55+ development with condominiums, town homes and single family homes.    It started out in 2005 as a Centex-DelWebb project, but it became a DelWebb community when Centex and Pulte merged in 2010.

Approximately 1,400 homes are here and all come with a gourmet kitchen, ceramic tile baths and natural gas heat.  The single family homes, all of which are resales, come in 12 different floor plans. All of these homes have two to three bedrooms, including a first level master bedroom, and an attached garage.   The town homes, which are also resales, come in clusters of three or four attached units and have five floor plans from which to choose.   The condominiums are new construction and are in several four story, elevator-access buildings.  Sizes for these condo homes range from 890 square feet to 1,662 square feet, and parking is at the front of each building.    Condo prices start in the high-$100,000s.  Town home and single family home prices are considerably higher.  Check with the community or a Realtor to verify these prices as they may change.

The residences encircle the beautiful, 29,000 square foot clubhouse, which is the heart and soul of Potomac Green.  It has a large ballroom, craft rooms, meeting spaces, a billiards room and much more.   Other amenities include a fitness center, an indoor walking trail, swimming pools, a spa, tennis courts, a library, gardening plots and a wellness center.

The menu of social clubs and activities is extensive and includes poker games, a book club, morning coffee get-togethers, an investment club, couple's dinners, line dancing, ladies' lunches and much more.   An on site activities director helps residents find the groups and activities that are best for them, but residents may partake in as much or as little social activity as they would like.

An affluent, fast-growing suburban community, Ashburn is located in one of the wealthiest counties in the country, and it is home to high tech companies and defense contractors, as well as to Washington, D.C. government workers and lobbyists.

Ashburn does not have a hospital of its own, but neighboring Leesburg, about two miles away, has a hospital that is accredited by the Joint Commission.

This area has summer temperatures in the 80s and 90s, and winter temperatures in the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s.  On average, the area receives 42 inches of rain and 20 inches of snow each year.
