Friendly Myrtle Beach Golf and Country Club, Just Seven Miles from the Beach, Boasts a Mix of Neighborhoods, a Reasonable HOA Fee and a Bounty of Groups and Activities

Only seven miles from Myrtle Beach's famous white sand, Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club has 1,024 single family homes constructed between 1985 and 2012, giving it a mix of old and new neighborhoods. The community is not age restricted and does not have golf or yachts but is quiet, friendly and popular with empty nesters and retirees.

Older homes are modest but cute, made from wood and without a garage. Newer residences in the Camelot, Ashley Cove, Gardens and Fairways neighborhoods have a brick or vinyl exterior and a two car garage. All properties feature two or more bedrooms, one to two bathrooms and roughly 1,100 square feet to 1,800 square feet. Some have a back patio or a Carolina room (enclosed patio).

Prices begin in the mid- to high-$100,000s. The $100 per month HOA fee helps pay for general maintenance, recreation facilities, 24/7 security service, and front lawn care. Please verify these prices with a Realtor as they are bound to change.

The community center has all purpose rooms for classes and all kinds of gatherings. The outdoor swimming pool is surrounded by two spas and a picnic area. Trails for walking and biking wind through the development. Dedicated RV and boat parking is available.

A basketball court, tennis courts, and shuffleboard round out the outdoor amenities. Neighbors meet for Zumba, Mah Jongg, cookouts, pasta parties, karaoke, and bake sales.

The Heron Point Golf Club around which much of the community sits has been closed since at least 2015. The fairways are overgrown, essentially giving Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club a nature preserve. It is not clear whether the course owner will sell the course to a homebuilder to develop it or whether it will stay in its current state. In the meantime, the men's and women's golf clubs travel to nearby courses Myrtlewood, Whispering Pines, and Waterway Hills.

Grocery stores and shopping centers are just outside community gates. Both the Grand Strand Medical Center and the Myrtle Beach International Airport are within easy reach. Myrtle Beach manages four recreation centers, one tennis center, and two indoor pools. City festivals range from a blessing of the bikes to full moon parties.

Conway Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission.

This area has summer high temperatures in the 80s and 90s, and winter temperatures in the 40s and 50s. On average, the area receives 52 inches of rain each year.

South Carolina:

Francisco de Gordillo explored the present-day South Carolina coast during 1521 but was unable to establish a town. The French also failed to colonize in 1562. The English settled here in 1670, but they moved on to Charleston when the conditions worsened. The two Carolinas split officially in 1729. The state was the first to leave the Union during the Civil War.

South Carolina was once primarily agricultural and still grows peanuts, watermelons, peaches and tobacco. Today, though, it is mostly known for its textile mills. Wood products, asbestos, steel, pulp and chemicals are particularly important. A commercial tea plantation, and the only one in America, lies on an island 20 miles South of Charleston.

Top attractions include Fort Sumter, which is a national monument, the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, the Cypress Gardens (located in Charleston), Hilton Head resorts, the Cowpens National Battlefield, the Botanical Gardens and the Riverbanks Zoo.

55+ Communities and Single People

It often seems as though 55+ communities are full of happily married people. This is not always the case, though, as the demographic fact is that women often outlive their spouses. It is true that newer developments draw couples because newer developments tend to draw younger retirees. This is simply because older communities have residents who moved in longer ago. Older developments have more singles, particularly women, because the residents are often older. As to where to find single men, that is out of our area of expertise.
